FutureSchools 2015 Wrap Up

KOMxBwuS83t52c6lkPetetxB1qu3KpaMLPhY5Ef422IEducators, speakers and edtech innovators from all over Australia, New Zealand and the far reaching corners of the World came together this month at the Australian Technology Park in Sydney to share their insight and experiences in what amounted to an absolutely awesome and awe-inspiring series of conferences and hands-on masterclasses.

Tripling in size from a successful year in 2014, FutureSchools this year brought even more value for educators professional development budget by offering targeted and thought provoking conferences all under one roof, which also included ClassTech, Teaching Kids to Code, S.E.T.N. and the Young Learners Conference. Simon Breakspear (AUS) brought best practice thinking in his session on agile leadership, Charles Leadbeater (UK) unpacked the best of innovation in education and Ian Jukes (Canada) helped to align technology initiatives with measurable student outcomes.

The unrivalled and unstoppable Gary Stager (USA) moved the maker movement forward here in Australia, Richard Byrne (USA) further developed the makings of the flipped classroom through content creation using media and mobile apps to improve student engagement and collaboration and Jon Bergmann (USA) pushed instruction and revision techniques in the flipped classroom to the next level to bring even more benefits that the classroom of the future can offer to both the student and the educator into the school in the here and now. With bonus presentations from Matt Richards and meet ups hosted by @aussieED’s Brett Salakas, there was an incredible number of teacher selfies taken with Australia’s own education thought leaders and innovators.

As the FutureSchools expo continues to grow in scope and popularity, you can be sure to look forward to an even bigger and better event next year with just as many (if not more!) opportunities to catch the inspiration bug and earn those valuable professional development points while growing your personal learning network of inspired and likeminded peers.

However, if you missed out on FutureSchools this year, you don’t have to wait another 12 months to get all the inspiration you need. There is still time to register for EduTECH 2015 – get there!!
